Jubilee Year of Mathematics 2019
in a resolution of September 18th, 2017 2017 decided to call the year 2019 the
Jubilee Year of Mathematics.
The resolution refers to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of an organization for mathematicians, founded on April 2nd , 1919, called the Mathematical Society in Kraków, later transformed into the Polish Mathematical Society.
Due to the efforts of the Polish Mathematical Society the hundredth anniversary of its establishment was honored by the state authorities. The Senate of the Republic of Poland took a resolution declaring the year 2019 the Year of Mathematics. The detailed information may be found at http://www.jrm2019.pl. The Senate’s resolution gave the celebration of PTM’s hundredth anniversary in the Republic of Poland an important rank.
The celebration of the anniversary of the PTM will be accompanied by various events, not only scientific but also meant to popularize mathematics. The culmination point of the celebrations will be the Jubilee Congress for the 100th Anniversary of the Polish Mathematical Society, which will take place from September 3rd to September 7th.
A conference dedicated to the history and future of mathematics is planned in the Senate, in cooperation with the Committee of Science, Education and Sports. The celebrations of the Year of Mathematics will also be accompanied by a historical exhibition.
A spectacular event of the Jubilee Year of Mathematics will be the arrangement of the Sierpinski triangle by 6561=812 students from schools of Lesser Poland Voivodship at Błonia Park in Kraków. Similar events will be organized in other cities as well.
The Polish Mathematical Society together with the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University are aiming at commemorating the establishment of the PTM with a plaque.
