Contest Exhibition Matematyka w obiektywie
A public and free photography contest Mathematics in Focus www.mwo.usz.edu.pl is a part of an international educational project MATHEMATICS IN FOCUS. The first edition took part in 2010. The project was organized by the Department of Mathematical Education of the Institute of Mathematics of the Mathematics and Physics Faculty of the University of Szczecin, Studenckie Koło Naukowe Młodych Dydaktyków Matematyki and Koło Kultury Matematycznej US, as well as the Szczecin department of the Polish Mathematical Society. The originator and director of this project is professor Małgorzata Makiewicz.
The aim of the project is building common ground between art and mathematics, promoting mathematical education, promoting mathematical reasoning, as well as popularizing mathematical knowledge and culture. It consists of a photography contest, scientific research in the area of mathematical didactics and comparative literature, publications, conferences, exhibitions, open lectures and workshops for both students and teachers. The exhibition shows chosen honorably mentioned photographs with their titles. Many on them not only show the beauty of mathematics, but also its universality and usefulness. The competition archive consists of over 43 thousand pieces form all over the world. Since the first edition, the interest in the competition has increased significantly – over 40 times.
The President of the University of Szczecin is the head of Honorary Committee, which
also consists of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage,
Minister of National Education, The Ministry of Digital Affairs, The Ombudsman for
Children, Marshal of West Pomeranian Voivodeship, President of the City of Szczecin,
NASK, President of the Polish Mathematical Society and Westpomeranian Education
Superintendent.
